Considering all that has happened this year, it is a wonder
that Football games are even HAPPENING! But your favorite teams are suiting up
and Football is back on TV!
Rather than just have your butt hug the couch while stuffing
chicken wings, chips, and beer down your gullet, a fantastic way to enjoy your
favorite sport AND turn it into a healthy activity at the same time is by
completing COMMERCIAL BREAK WORKOUTS! All you have to do is choose some
exercises that you will do during the commercial breaks. IF you commit to it
and stick to you, you may find yourself in MUCH better shape when the Football
season is over!
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Planks a lot - Simply perform a high or low plank
during the commercial break. Aim for longer and longer planks, and pretty soon,
you will be planking the entire break! (you can also swap out for shorter
duration side planks and other plank variations as well)
Push it, push it real good! - Just pushups! Knock out
as many as you can, rest 10 seconds, then continue. Keep “score” and try to
beat your total number every time you watch a game!
Full Body Football Fitness Fun - Combine a few
exercises together in a CIRCUIT and knock out as many rounds as you can during
the commercial break and again, keep score and try to beat your number of
rounds for each subsequent commercial break. For instance:
5 pushups
5 squats
10 jumping jacks
REPEAT!
Another excellent way to enjoy your football game while
rocking out that bod is to create a GAME out of the game! Simply assign a particular
exercise and number of reps to something that happens during the game, then
each time it happens, you get to work! Here is an example of how you can set
this up:
First down squats - Every time your team gets a first
down, perform 10 squats
Pass completion pushups - Every time your team catches
a pass, knockout 5 pushups
Touchdown burpees - Every time your team scores, knockout 15 burpees!
Either of the above techniques can turn a regular old football game get together into some muscle blasting FUN! (IF you can find the friends who will join you!) You can use any exercises you like, and if you have friends join you, you can use the exercises as PUNISHMENT, so for instance, when YOUR team scores, THEY have to do the burpees and vice versa. That adds a bit of insult to injury but will make the game more interesting no matter who wins! Come up with your own variations and COMMIT to make exercise a part of your football fun, and you will emerge from the Superbowl a fitter version of yourself from when the first kickoff happened months before…GO FOR IT!
